He died in Manchester in 1966. His older brother John Stephen RIF died August 23 1914 near Mons. His uncle was George Augustine Lyons who was imprisoned in Frongoch. His younger brother, Haydn took the anti-treaty side during the civil war and was imprisoned in Ballykinlar accused of shooting Captain Baggardly.

Sean Cusack was a member of the Irish Volunteers from its inception serving as Director of Training in the Belfast area he was also a member of the British army serving during part of the First World War having been called up from the reserve in August 1914. At the time of the Rising, he was still serving as a Sergeant with the British Army in the Royal Irish Rifles. He was ordered to County Cavan in the days preceding the Easter Rising by Sean MacDermott to take command of Irish Volunteer units there on the morning of Sunday 23 April. His orders were then to join forces with other Irish Volunteer units in the area. He was intercepted en route to Cavan with the news that the Rising had been called off and then returned to Belfast. On receipt of news that the Rising had broken out he tried unsuccessfully to make contact with Irish Volunteers in County Tyrone. Arrested in May 1916 he was kept in close confinement until July and remained in the British Army until securing a medical discharge in October of that year. He was in receipt of a British Army pension until voluntarily giving it up during the ‘Conscription Crisis’ of 1918.

He was an ex-member of the Connaught Rangers who participated in the mutiny in India in 1920. He enlisted in March 1907 (13th Hussars) until 1914. Joined the Connaught Rangers in 1915 and re-enlisted again in 1919. He served during WWI in France, Egypt, Salonika, Palestine and Serbia and again in France prior to the Armistice. He was court-martialled after taking part in the mutiny while stationed in India and was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment (commuted to 3 years). He was imprisoned in Dagshai, transferred to England in January 1921 and imprisoned in Portland, Maidstone and Walton Prisons. He was released from Walton Prison on 23 March 1922. He joined the National Army at Maryborough.
